Jimmy Smits was born on July 9, 1955, in Brooklyn, New York, USA. He studied at Brooklyn College and later earned a Master of Fine Arts degree from Cornell University, developing a strong foundation in theater before transitioning to television.
He first gained major recognition with his role as Victor Sifuentes in L.A. Law, which earned him an Emmy Award and established him as a leading television actor. In 1994, Smits joined NYPD Blue as Bobby Simone, quickly becoming one of the show’s most beloved characters.
